So there's this artist

Since I know some people *cough*[personal profile] cumuluscastle*cough* like to journal about art, and I'm feeling less like death and I was gone for a few days, I figured I would ramble about this artist I fell in love with in Artist Alley.

Meet Alice.

There are two styles of art I've always, without fail, been drawn to; impressionistic surrealism, and stark art deco. I'm well aware these are basically opposites. XD But in a sea of anime drawings (not that there's a damned thing wrong with them) I was rather struck by this haunting and colorful image of a man kissing a woman with a guitar string tattoo on her back. Thankfully she has a deviantart account, because this is what I'm talking about. The inspiration behind it warms my heart a little, though I didn't know it when I bought it. I also bought this one, because I have a thing about people breaking instruments.

So yes. Very much in love. I kind of want the whole series now. Because it's mythology and it's gorgeous and it's very personal feeling.

Plus her husband has an adorable accent and was such a lovely fanboy and helper for her.

There's this thing I look for in artists on Dev Art, I don't know how to describe it, but it's a sense of style. I like to feel the artist isn't just copying something else he/she has seen. I honestly can't explain it coherently, obviously everyone artist has a *style.* Still, I really enjoyed the textures and colours and I liked the complexity of the pieces as well. So many Dev Art artists only do character studies. There's nothing wrong with character studies, I just like to see a story as well.

I think I get what you mean. That's kind of the thing I was looking around Artist Alley for at Otakon--I would have even gone for fanart if they weren't, well, all the same four characters or so. I tend to love the obscure characters, and I expected I'd be out of luck. XD But even fanart can have something different about it.
