QUANTUM OF SOLACE

Ha, well, I was supposed to wait until my family went to see it, but there was offers of breakfast and hanging with people. It's fucking cold and I'm a little tired now (keeping warm saps eeeeenergy) but I'm happy!

Anyway, possible spoilers, though I'll try to keep it vague, the usual.

Well, that is certainly not what I was expecting. I liked that, though. Kind of had a slightly more Bourne type feel. For a Bond movie, it was interestingly self-aware; lots of pan ins on dirty streets before going up to the glamorous parties. There was a lot more grit and reflection. In fact, setting was a real focus, with these really neat titles for each location. It managed to go a little more Timothy Dalton type Bond, but without going TOO far into that. Because I didn't really like Dalton much. It stopped just before hitting all that ridiculous angst. It handled the bits where there were emotional punctuation without going over the top. Thank god.

I kind of loved Camille, who didn't actually serve as a typical Bond Girl as much as, well, a reflection. I hope I see her in more films, she's got a steely interestingness to her and her vulnerabilities didn't seem so mentally unstable as a lot of them--her specific phobia that came into play made sense.

I really love how much we got to see M. OMG I love Dench!M so much. There's something very awesome about the M-Bond dynamic, which kind of elevates her in a way that is very cool.

And oh man, what a burn on the CIA in some parts. Though it was great to see Felix again, as I like Felix. But as a CIA nerd, I think it was fair. I guess I have a certain moral ambiguity to where I can still enjoy certain things. XD I don't make sense. But it also had an environmentalist bad guy. There was a lot of talking out of both sides of the mouth, which is kind of nice.

I love Daniel Craig as usual. He's such an understated actor, but damns can he be subtly expressive. When I go to see it with the family maybe I'll catch more.

It wasn't the "whoa" experience that Casino Royale was, but I liked it. I think the people whining are being babies. XD

I also really liked the title sequence. God I need that song.

More of a Bourne feel makes it sound so tempting.

Still very different, but the action sequences and some of the way things played out reminded me a bit of Bourne.

I can't complain, I think I like all spy movies by default. XD

I suppose that means he doesn't attempt to settle down and become a professor. xp
