you want to avoid something that'll end at your hip and go for something that's got a cinch around the middle.
Gawd no, the opposite actually. I have a VERY short waist. Like...there is maybe 4in of distance from my boobs to my hips. Srsly. It just makes me look shorter and fatter than I am (and I don't need that). I wear knit stuff 'cause it kinda makes a nice line and since it's rarely petite, it kinda visually stretches my ueber-short torso. It actually works pretty well. Unless the shirt/blazer/whatever is REALLY FITTED, it um doesn't work and I look like I'm expecting. :P (I've kinda put on more weight. Guh. Curse you cracktastic work schedule...)
Both those jackets are cute, but a belted waist is usually a bad idea on me. (See above comments about looking twice as fat as I am.) The two-tone one MIGHT work, but it'd totally have to be a petite and with a shorter peplum. I am just too danged short to really get away with most jackets.
Heh, no, I am far too familiar with what fits and what doesn't. I just hate gleaning through the sales rack trying to find something that 1) I like, 2) fits, and 3) I can afford. :P
...
I think I need to start sewing for myself more. --;
