i love all your TNG bullets as i am such a TNG die-hard, even though, as you say, (hard as this is for me to admit) it's not the /best/ star trek but it is definitely my favorite. like you, it hugely influenced who i am today. i wanted to be an astronomer so hard growing up because of star trek. ends up i am not as great at physics as i'd hoped i'd be so now i'm in marketing, wah wahhhh.

i can't remember which season it is that TNG brushed the closest it ever got with genderqueer issues, the one with the species that is asexual and one of the beings falls in love with riker? i'm with you too on liking him a lot more as an adult, the winks are a lot funnier when you're older (especially the way frakes says some of it, hoo boy). i just did NOT get that stuff when i was watching this when it first came out. (my mom did though, lol. no wonder she liked him so much hahaha)

agree on the troi/yar thing, too. i am sure that's practically canon if not just hugely widely accepted. and agreed on riker as well. was it really roddenberry who shied away from sexuality issues though? for some reason i always thought it was the network/"the times we were living in." if only TNG had come like 10 years later it would all have been okay. (but oh man the early 90s would not have been the same without TNG. it is the epitome of many big parts of 90s progressive thinking and responsible for many people my age i know now in science careers!!)

DS9 is the ONLY star trek not on netflix instant right now but it's coming soon. i own TNG on dvd boxset.

TEEL DEAR I LOVE TNG TO PIECES AND CAN TALK ABOUT IT NONSTOP KTHXBAI
