crankyoldman: "Hermann, you don't have to salute, man." [Pacific Rim] (Default)

Because I've been promising Drak dancey music for a while

Most if not all of these are guilty pleasures for one reason or another. When I really like a song, I have a tendency of finding like, five covers and remixes for it. XD I've probably used a couple of these on FSTs. Since it's just a mix I don't really care, have at it. XD I know, I'm on vacation, but the internets at work here are SO fucking fast I couldn't not abuse the connection for nefarious purposes.

Club Armadillo's 3AM Mix
Yes, I really listen to this at 3AM. But I'm nice and wear headphones.

1. Andy Hunter - Lifelight (8:28)
Andy Hunter is actually probably my favorite techno artist. I love how he does samples, and the fact a lot of his stuff is melodic--it's nostaglic to my classical music days. Also, I really love how he used chanting samples in a rhythmic way.

2. Dance Dance Revolution - Sakura (1:39)
You really don't want to know how much DDR music I have. Really.

3. Madonna - How High (4:40)
The reason I dislike most female pop vocalists nowadays is because they don't have Madonna's attitude, to be honest. They're sex objects and there's a whole creepy feeling I get from that. Madonna, on the other hand, manages to have a certain control that the imitators lack. Plus, I've been a fan since I was like, five. This song in particular is at a great walking pace for me.

4. Crystal Waters - 100% Pure Love (Club Mix) (4:59)
Oh, like ya'll didn't like this song when it came out too. Pre-"bitches and hos" hip-hop and R&B, this song is one most of us over the age of 18 couldn't not hear on the radio. I happen to like this mix because it pumps it up a little without overpowering the melody.

5. Gorillaz - Dare (Dave Aude Edit) (4:06)
Admittedly, I don't really like Gorillaz as much as I should (they sound a little, well, twelve, to me at times) but I really like this one. Then again, slap a Dave Aude remix on most songs and I suddenly like them more.

6. Infadels - Give Yourself To Me (Fake ID Remix) (4:13)
I forget where I picked this up, but it's one of those that gets stuck in my head. It also feels like the lovechild of the 80s, 90s, and the gay club scene, so I like it. Cuts off at the end a mite, so that's why the next song sounds a little explody.

7. Chris J. Emanuel - Yangshou (3:47)
I really wish this man was still making music. God, this was done in a guy's basement by himself. I kid you not. While Good May Come and The Pain of Mediocrity are probably better as far as melody and harmony, this one's just fun. And surprisingly complex, if you know where to listen.

8. Faithless Vs. Eurythmics - Sweet Insomnia (2:06)
My favorite mashup of all time. That's really all I can say.

9. Moby - Extreme Ways (DJ Tiesto's Vocal Remix) (7:14)
I probably have about five mixes of this song alone, because it's a wonderful song and other than "You Know My Name" by Chris Cornell it's probably THE spy song. I used this song to get my mom into techno (well, not this mix) and thus assimilate my family. I like this mix because it took a spare approach to a remix, actually making it sound almost like a completely different song. And around 3:40 in the song there's some fantastic use of synth.

10. Sufjan Stevens - Chicago (To String Remix By Jongalloway) (5:31)
I came across some Sufjan B-sides one day, and other than a couple wonderful acoustics, I came across this wonderful, wonderful mix. Again on the spare almost ambient side, which is something I like.

11. Nine Inch Nails - Meet Your Master (ATOM's Syncopic Episode) (5:42)
Just when I thought I had every good NIN song, I came across this. While ATOM's club mixes tend to well, use the same three tricks over and over again, this song and their remix of Ashes to Ashes by David Bowie struck me as really neat. I'm particularly fond of the downbeats and synthing.

12. Kate Bush - Running Up That Hill (12inch Mix) (5:45)
Really, this just needed some Kate Bush. ILU!

13. Underworld - Born Slippy .NUXX (Darren Price Mix) (6:29)
I find this song somewhat hypnotic, and the lyrics are crazy. Of a style of trance dance that builds up slowly, which is kind of awesome.

14. The Smashing Pumpkins - 1979 (Moby remix) (5:10)
The original came out when I was in junior high, and anytime I heard it on the radio I tuned in. One of those sort of bored young people songs that become ingrained into your psyche. This mix has more of a beat, in true Moby style. The changes are subtle once you get to the middle, but I think they're good.

15. Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Murder On The Dancefloor (3:51)
Yes, I love this song. Partly because I get a wicked glee out of the use of the word "murder" but I'm strange.

16. Four Tet - Pockets (5:02)
I wanted to use this on a TRON FST that never got made, because it's full of awesome and synchronization and win. Instrumental.

17. Oakenfold Feat. Brittney Murphy - Faster Kill Pussycat (3:14)
Paul Oakenfold also does some fab remixes that I keep up with, and he took a pretty standard pop song and built all this crazy stuff around it, which makes it awesome. Used this on an OC's FST, because her name is Katherine. Heh.

18. The Killers - Mr. Brightside (The Lindbergh Palace Club Remix) (8:20)
I wanted to put "All These Things That I've Done", but I use that song a lot. I'm also terribly fond of this one, and I like this mix muchly.

19. Madison Avenue - Don't Call Me Baby (4:53)
Got this from a meme where someone gives you a song that reminds them of you. I find it ironic that it was not only a dancey tune, but one in which the general message is "I pwn you, not the other way around". XD

20. Beck - Ghettochip Malfunction (Hell Yes) (Remix by 8Bit) (2:39)
I shouldn't like this song. I know I shouldn't. But I found it by accident, and damns if it doesn't just have everything I like--downbeats, rapping that I can understand, lack of grunting, fun robovoice, random use of another language and Engrish, and specifically lyrics about dancing and music in a very fourth-wall breaking way.
