Getting sick let me catch up on reading and fun stuff

No really. It did. At least things I could do while in bed, or sitting down. When the fever broke at least. I think I really needed to do this. XD I feel oddly recharged. Trying to catch up on work stuff now.

Reading

- Finished Young Miles, and am no longer worried that the kid won't live up to the ridiculously awesome parents. Miles is the kind of sci-fi main character I wish I'd had more of growing up. I'm well into the next omnibus, because there is Miles/Gregor slash um, fanfiction I want to read.

- I also finished Reality is Broken. It was great and makes me happy. That's basically all I can say without gushing all over.

Playing

- So, I got through enough of Metal Gear Solid now to see where the story is heading and get some sneaking skills. It's still slow going, but not annoyingly so. I absolutely loved Revolver Ocelot's intro, and considering it took me four or six times to beat him, I got pretty familiar with it. XD He's a dapper cowboy of an old man, the fact that I am fangirling a bit already over him should not surprise anyone. If I were to cosplay anyone in that game, it would probably be a femme version of him. XD Meryl is pretty freaking adorable, and I have to say the whole ROOKIE TRYING TO PROVE HERSELF thing is not one that has ever bothered me, and I have to admit I like watching her annoy Snake and ah.... walk. Also WTF INVSI-NINJA. Still freaking love the codec, and I'm glad I read a guide to get Natasha's code, because now Mei Ling can have a girlfriend. I mean what. >.> It's also fun to see a woman that might actually be too butch for Snake to flirt with in the normal way, and it's cute. I'm mostly excited to finally meet Otacon, because everyone I know who has ever played the games is just all about him and I probably won't disagree because he sounds adorbs.

Also I have some weapons now, and they are not helping as much as I hoped they would. Thank god I've gotten better at sneaking and finally figured out the trick of the cameras. Goddamn cameras.

Watching

- Watched Cleopatra. Because somehow I'd missed seeing an old epic movie? I'm a little shocked by this, actually. These movies are always fun to me because of how much they get wrong, how much overacting you find, but how completely elegantly it's all done. Not quite up there with my favorite epic The Ten Commandments (religious epics dial the epic up to eleven thousand), but it was pretty great to watch while sick. I have to admit, the first half of (the FOUR HOUR) movie was my favorite half, partly because Caesar was played by Henry Higgins, who is one of my favorite, and Antony was played by... I don't know. Someone deeply unattractive. You can't have a deeply unattractive male lead for Elizabeth Taylor, folks. You just can't. It's like how just creepy corpsular Gary Cooper was next to Audrey Hepburn in Love in the Afternoon. It was like that (and I know Gary Cooper was more attractive when he was younger at least).

- Watched half of Darker Than Black which is one of those kinds of animes that hits a lot of things I like from animes. Strange event/thing appears and gives some people POWERS! Discussion on powers being human or inhuman! Noir detectives (one played straight, a female, who is ridic awesome and has a bit of a past with a mafia princess, and one played for laughs, male, whose sidekick is a pink haired anime fangirl that is arguably the best character of the show)! Morally ambiguous MI6 agents (who hate smoking)! Astronomers ACTUALLY BEING USEFUL (and sometimes evil!). A team consisting of a dude that seems cold (but pretends to be a dork as a cover... or is he pretending), a talking black cat, a little loli doll girl, and a really cranky criminal guy who... fight something! Anyway, it's a lot of fun and they do a good job with the one-off characters as well as the mains. Enough angst and humor to keep it from being too much of one or the other.

- I also managed to rewatch Baccano! and most of Full Metal Panic! while I was in the fever having, but watching isn't quite what was happening more like informing my hallucinations. Remind me never to watch anime with lots of fight scenes while I'm feverish again.

Also, go over to bandcamp and download the free walking ruckus demo. Just do it. Now. Don't think.
