hrm, well!
I did a lot of biking and walking today.
Partly for things related to class, but mostly because I really just like walking and biking. Biking for the rush and the ability to go farther out--I did that in the morning while it was still cool. Then when it got too warm for that I walked around some. I saw all these nice little things they've built around campus, noticed a few trees had gotten bigger, and found the second Asian mart that's really close to my dorm. I also went and checked out a camera from the library, I have it until Friday. I'll take pictures of my room sometime before then, probably in the late morning when the light is best.
I attempted to blend in today, for observational purposes, but most likely because I've seen too many spy movies. Going undercover was interesting--noticed a few people I wouldn't have seen otherwise. Like one girl that reminded me of Molly Ringwald had she been less pristine in her youth, and Orlando Bloom look-alike dressed like a hipster, and I had a conversation with a girl that apparently only wears the color green. As much as people can tire me out, I still need to be somewhere where I can just walk around and bump into them. I like being able to do that. I think that's the real reason I started reading things about streetfashion online--it's another way to just bump into random people. Sure, I may not have a single thing in common with them, but it's interesting.
Since
firefly99 is a cool person that gets me music that is nearly always good as she's got a real good ear for it (and a dad that sounds like he should be my dad's British pen pal), I'm going to do a music babble. Since muxtape is still down, I'm prolly going to upload this month's mixtape somewhere else, and I'm still figuring out where to do that. I'm also figuring out that mixtape, cause yeah, August sort of ate me. So a pseudo review of sorts:
Joan As Police Woman is one of those talented piano/violin people that I always found myself wanting to date (no, really, piano or violin players are hot). She sounds like the lovechild of Feist and David Bowie (during the 70s) who might have spent some time in Harlem. Which is a sound I'm really digging these days, so It was all kinds of love. The instrumentation backup is great, because it varies, with some obvious centering around her violin and piano abilities (but not making them a centerpiece... it's hard to explain).
The album I have of hers, Real Life is a really interesting album which has a progression that's a little unusual. The first song has... absolutely not much of a kick at all, which I sort of expect. It's slow, spare, and kind of a downer. It almost made me afraid of the rest of the album, but I knew that Fly wouldn't send me garbage or emo bs, so I went to the next song. Which had more kick and a really addictive melody and this awesome line "I can't be the lighter of your eternal flame". Which is a really awesome metaphor and I like awesome metaphors that work. The album goes back to slower and more spare, with really nifty songwriting. But my favorite song is "I Defy", which features some other vocals and has a bit of funk to it, which is quite well blended with the rest of the album. "Flushed Chest" is another good on, which makes me think of the fantasy ideal of cities--considering I've never lived in a huge city, it fits with my slightly romanticized view of them. There's some fun harmonies and rhythms through the whole thing, and it ends with a harder spare song than the opener called "We Don't Own It" which is kind of clever.
It's definitely something I'm going to be listening to for a while. Here's "I Defy" for a taste.
And now some babble about Project Runway, because we're all allowed something that's silly to like. And the Project Rungay boys sort of make my day, and this season has started to really entertain me again.
Stella, Stella, Stella. I was prepared to hate her, because I thought she was another Jeffrey (Season 3, the season I started watching), only female. And let me put it out there--I hated Jeffrey. Thirty-six is too old to think you're a punk rocker, especially if you're trying to make an establishment. My awesome punk friend from Vegas probably found him annoying. But Stella is just so genuine and really is rock and roll--not exactly what you'd bring to a dinner party, but certainly someone to have in a bar fight. And hell, her boyfriend's name is RATBONES. <3 I don't think you'll make top three, doll, but I hope you stay in as long as possible.
Leann was someone I liked from the start. She's just so soft-spoken and Hollywood Homely and makes structural garments, which are something I sort of have a fascination with. I mean, anything that'll make me look curvy is of interest. And I kind of want that crazy artsy carseat cover dress. Hot.
Kenley is starting to annoy me. Pity, she looks real nice, but she's just... mean. And her laugh is a little grating. Suede... guh. Please go away soon, the both of you.
I sort of think Jerrell is fabulously bitchy, even if his designs are a little... out there at times. I did love how he and Stella worked together WELL, though. Maybe because Stella's more hardkore and not so queeny, it worked. I kind of want to see him and Stella hang out more.
Blayne gets a free pass because he's nice to Stella. And he's entertaining in the way that I find Freshmen entertaining. Plus, I'm waiting to see if being away from the tanning beds will do anything to him.
Korto knows her shit. I sort of want to see her and Terri cagematch.
In conclusion, Chrisitan (season 4), Austin (season 1), and Stella need a show together. Stella's in because there needs to be a little testosterone in the mix, plus, it'd be great. Of course, I'd never leave my TV. So that might be bad.
One last thing.
So, I really sort of want to do "Professional Cosplay Wednesdays", but I need some ideas. Like random characters from anime, TV, video games--whatever. I just have a few constraints:
- I don't have any of my wigs/crazy costuming stuff yet. It'll come later this month. So if it involves any of that, then I can't do it.
- It has to involve a tie of somesort. I've worn ties every single Wednesday except once or twice due to being sick since I was a senior in high school, which was like six years ago. A bowtie or a Western stringy tie thing also works, but gotta have tie.
- My wardrobe is crazy, but I don't have like, armor or anything crazy like that. I do have a robe that looks like a kimono, though. Think reasonably.
- Can't have a hat or a t-shirt with a logo. Because the prof is dumb.
- Link me to a picture. It helps.
- Male or female doesn't matter, but alien or animal does.
