Since I'll be gone over Otakon and tomorrow will likely SUCK ASS, I'll do a few days. But I like this, and figure it'll say a lot about me!

Day 1 - Very First Anime



Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust

I saw this in high school, because of a boy I was dating. I had zero exposure to anime before then, no srsly. Considering how many I like now and all the JRPGs I play, this kind of surprises even me. But I thought it was very arty and very cool. Protip: you can get me into just about any fandom if you show me a very arty example first. I am susceptible to that.

Day 2 - Favorite anime you've watched so far

This is hard, but time and again when I'm feeling anime-ish, I always come back to this one.

The music is beautiful, the story ends happily, and it has characters that I just got really emotionally involved with. It's never really about the giant robots. XD In some ways it kind of ruined other mecha shows for me, as most of the others are all about LIFE SUCKS AND THEN YOU DIE and hell, sometimes I just want the boy hero to actually DO A GOOD JOB when he's supposed to rebuild the world, yanno?

Day 3 - Your anime crush

I still haven't even FINISHED this anime fansub. But yeah. Bad guy, gunner, probably a sociopath, likes to mindfuck the hero.... she's really really hot to me, basically. Which means she's probably going to die. Also: suspenders and long coats are hot.

Day 4 - Anime you're ashamed you enjoyed



Queen's Blade

Borderline ecchi hentai in which chicks in various impossible outfits fight in a major tournament, but focuses on how one chick in particular is getting there and is the biggest bottom EVAR. See also: incest, random fluids, bad touch, tit demons, and a character that has a snake for underwear.

No, srsly.

I think the fact that it is SOOOO over the top is what bypasses my offended part of the brain and goes straight to my entertained and amused part. Or maybe it's because novel_machinist and I watched it and made hilarious comments. They still broke up one of my OTPs WITH DEATH THOUGH. FUCKERS.

I also hope to god I never run into a fanboy of this series. >.>

Day 5 - Anime character you feel you are most like (or wish you were)



Cid, Final Fantasy: Unlimited

Yes, I own this. It's cute and silly. But the Cid in this is fantastic. Your typical inventor/engineer, except he names all his inventions after women and gets REALLY UPSET if you do anything to them. Plus ELECTRO HAMMERS FROM HIS BACKPACK? POSSIBLE OTP WITH THE HOT STRONG CHICK?

Cids are always my role models.

Day 6 - Most annoying anime character



Excel, from Excel Saga

I know, it was supposed to be on crack. I know, it's a satirical deconstruction of anime. I still didn't find it funny. In fact, I remember sitting there watching it with my then boyfriend and worrying if I had no sense of humor. I found everyone annoying, I thought the gags were juvenile, and basically hoped that this didn't mean ALL humorous anime was this bad. Thankfully it's not. And since Excel is the main character, she gets this, though really, it's pretty much every character.

I'm sorry Excel fans, but if I want to giggle for no reason, I can just smoke pot.

For another mechashow that ends on an up note (though a wistful one), Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is worth checking out. It's Gainax, and it's Gainax MAKING FUN OF ITSELF, and both mocking the shit out of and fanboying the shit out of mecha anime tropes. SOME STUFF WILL PROBABLY MAKE YOU CRY IF YOU ARE LIKE ME but it's not needless wangst by any means. And Yoko is amazing.
