And now a fandom meme that has been EVERYWHERE
Pick a character I write, and I will give you the top five ideas/concepts/other I keep in mind while writing that character that I believe are essential to depicting them accurately.
If you don't know a fandom I write, if it's a movie, there's a chance I've thought about writing for it. I've rated 1136 movies on Netflix, with roughly 40 of them being ones I don't want to see. Or hell, say "random original character". I have plenty of those. XD

1. He's hard on his underlings, but he's not cruel to them. This is colored by his military experience; he's a drill sergeant at times, not a sadist. The youngest Turks sometimes interpret his attitude as cruelty though, because they're brats.
2. He's extremely diligent about keeping his personal and work life separate, which is why when there are breaches in that, he is incredibly displeased. This extends to other Turks; he doesn't care what they do off duty, as long as it doesn't affect their on-duty work.
3. He really does have a file on everyone in the company, because he doesn't trust anyone. Especially not when people can disappear on him.
4. He really did love his wife. Mostly because she thought he was someone else, someone better. And Elfe acts a lot like him despite not entirely being raised by him and it kind of scares him a little.
5. Veld's number one flaw is his professionalism; he uses it as a barrier between him and other people. This is how bad things happen.
Vincent
1. He cannot for the life of him tell people how he feels. Ever. Partly because he's a tad sociopathic, but mostly because he tends to have things for very driven and charismatic people and he doesn't want to look ridiculous in front of them.
2. He's got a very competitive relationship with his father. When he can't live up to him, he then does something to piss him off. This is why he's a Turk.
3. He really really likes guns. That's why he stayed a Turk.
4. Sometimes he rather would turn into a monster than talk to people. Partly because his monsters are aspects of himself amplified. Hellmasker is a much better talker than he is.
5. His biggest regret about not talking Lu and Hojo out of being Extreme Science Fail is that it effectively put them all out of sync with time. It pisses him off more than anything, because they all could have been so much more.
And things I keep in mind when writing the two of them:
1. Veld always eggs Vin on, even if he won't admit it. It's his second favorite pastime after reading.
2. Veld thinks Vin is too smart to be a Turk and should be curing cancer or something. Vin thinks Veld should be a teacher when he retires, because he knows better than to tell the man to quit.
3. They're both extremely jealous of anyone the other might be interested in, but too proud to admit it.
4. Veld's more bisexual than Vin is. Vin's more gay than Veld is.
5. Their favorite thing to do together is to laze on Veld's crappy couch and watch the TV. So far no one caught on to that.

2. She really wants Dragon to stop being such a scaredy cat, not because it would be good for him, but because he makes a good sidekick when he's not hiding.
3. She's more scared of bees than she is of ghosts, spiders, and creepy crawling things. This is partly because she was used to living in a haunted house and partly because bees sting!
4. She always carries random bits of things in her pocket, just in case.
5. She assumes that most adults have their own agenda, and always has an exit strategy for when they try that agenda.

IF that's too hard, uh, random original character.

Gray Waterfall
1. He only says about 20% of what he's thinking at any given time. Part of this is politeness, part of this is respect for Lotus, but it's mostly because he was a bit of a smartass when he was much younger and he got reprimanded for that a lot. So he's just a smartass internally.
2. Though he has several siblings, he never got to spend much time with them. He wanted to, though, which is partly why he thinks of Lotus as a younger brother.
3. He really really wishes Lotus would run with a less trouble-finding crowd. He knows there's enough on the kid's plate as it is.
4. He idolizes his father, who is disappointed that Waterfall is only a mere bodyguard instead of some General or something crazy unreal like that. Despite this he isn't that disappointed in what he does, but kind of proud considering that Lotus isn't a complete idiot like others in the clan.
5. He has utterly no idea how to talk to someone he finds attractive. Thankfully he's usually scenery and doesn't have to deal with that pretty much ever. And if someone were to flirt with him, he'd assume they were either some kind of spy or thief and react accordingly.

1. Despite being friendly and outgoing, she is inherently shy. She's mostly outgoing because she's a pretty girl and people expect her to be, especially after she started bartending.
2. She stopped being romantically interested in Cloud once she actually got to know him. He is however still family in her mind, which is why she worries about him so much. She'd rather be the friend that she used to hope that he was.
3. She'll only tolerate top shelf liquor, the cheap stuff just tastes like gasoline.
4. Her biggest fear is becoming paralyzed. Being able to move fluidly is one of her greatest joys.
5. She desperately wants female friends, but she intimidates most other women. The fact that Jessie and Aeris both died doesn't help that. And Yuffie travels too much.

1. She's a very non-ambitious woman, who really just wanted the more basic things in life; a home, a husband, and children. The fact that she wasn't able to have that for long is one of the more depressing things about her.
2. It takes her a long time to forgive Cid for not killing her like he promised.
3. When she used to feel the weight of generations of sorceresses on her mind, she went swimming in very cold water. She's still more comforted by cold than by warmth when she feels unstable, though since she's lost her powers she has to be careful with that.
4. She's ridiculously well-read, part of the reason that she and Cid got along so well, aside from the Sorceress and Knight dynamic.
5. She doesn't deliberately withhold information; just people have always assumed that she didn't know anything and never asked.
Nathan
1. The voices really are just in his head. Marni's actual ghost sometimes wonders why she even married him.
2. In some ways he likes idealized dead Marni more than alive Marni; in this state she's completely perfect, and flagellates him only as much as he wants.
3. Compartmentalizing is the only way he can function on a normal level at all. His strongest compartments are his Daddy Compartment, Repo Man Compartment, and his Talking to Rotti Compartment. When Marni was alive there was also Nice for Marni Compartment.
4. He actually did get over Shilo growing up, and with as little Marni-associating as possible. This was a big step for him. Too bad that was minutes from death.
5. He's exceeding proud of the preserving job he did with Marni's corpse.
