Pick a character I write, and I will give you the top five ideas/concepts/other I keep in mind while writing that character that I believe are essential to depicting them accurately.
If you don't know a fandom I write, if it's a movie, there's a chance I've thought about writing for it. I've rated 1136 movies on Netflix, with roughly 40 of them being ones I don't want to see. Or hell, say "random original character". I have plenty of those. XD

Date: 2011-02-15 04:13 pm (UTC)1. He's hard on his underlings, but he's not cruel to them. This is colored by his military experience; he's a drill sergeant at times, not a sadist. The youngest Turks sometimes interpret his attitude as cruelty though, because they're brats.
2. He's extremely diligent about keeping his personal and work life separate, which is why when there are breaches in that, he is incredibly displeased. This extends to other Turks; he doesn't care what they do off duty, as long as it doesn't affect their on-duty work.
3. He really does have a file on everyone in the company, because he doesn't trust anyone. Especially not when people can disappear on him.
4. He really did love his wife. Mostly because she thought he was someone else, someone better. And Elfe acts a lot like him despite not entirely being raised by him and it kind of scares him a little.
5. Veld's number one flaw is his professionalism; he uses it as a barrier between him and other people. This is how bad things happen.
Vincent
1. He cannot for the life of him tell people how he feels. Ever. Partly because he's a tad sociopathic, but mostly because he tends to have things for very driven and charismatic people and he doesn't want to look ridiculous in front of them.
2. He's got a very competitive relationship with his father. When he can't live up to him, he then does something to piss him off. This is why he's a Turk.
3. He really really likes guns. That's why he stayed a Turk.
4. Sometimes he rather would turn into a monster than talk to people. Partly because his monsters are aspects of himself amplified. Hellmasker is a much better talker than he is.
5. His biggest regret about not talking Lu and Hojo out of being Extreme Science Fail is that it effectively put them all out of sync with time. It pisses him off more than anything, because they all could have been so much more.
And things I keep in mind when writing the two of them:
1. Veld always eggs Vin on, even if he won't admit it. It's his second favorite pastime after reading.
2. Veld thinks Vin is too smart to be a Turk and should be curing cancer or something. Vin thinks Veld should be a teacher when he retires, because he knows better than to tell the man to quit.
3. They're both extremely jealous of anyone the other might be interested in, but too proud to admit it.
4. Veld's more bisexual than Vin is. Vin's more gay than Veld is.
5. Their favorite thing to do together is to laze on Veld's crappy couch and watch the TV. So far no one caught on to that.
