Today was gorgeous, decided to put on a dress because it's never warm enough to wear a dress when I want to. XD So glad I sewed the missing buttons back on only a week ago.
So I promised a recap of the highlights from this weekend. Here goes. I'm breaking it up by section as this will be long.
So it was Aero Social Night on Friday, a practice in which the different Aero engineers get together at a certain pizza place and get free food (but not free beer) and relaxify. Professors usually join us, but there was a small turn out of them this year. Though, we didn't stay the whole time.
I ran into Big German Guy of Awesome, who only seems to appear when I'm drinking. I kid you not, even that one time I showed up in the computer lab after getting soused HE WAS THERE. I finally have his name figured out, and his cell phone number. I do love hanging out with Europeans, as they are not put off by my humor and in fact manage to one up me sometimes. After ASN we all (meaning, BGGoA, Justin, Drak and myself) went to the hookah bar and just sat around like we were the coolest people ever. When I feel like socializing, this is my favorite type--atmosphere is important. Since the hookah bar has the best music and least amount of stupid frat boys (as well as a startling amount of hot chick/nerd guy couples FOR REALZ) this was the perfect atmosphere to sit around. Due to the sitting around we missed watching BSG at Justin's old dorm with other nerds, but that's ok.
We just saw the later that night showing in my room. I scared my RA, as she must have been under the impression I was a hermit, as I suddenly show up with two guys and a girl and we were a mite on the loud side. Couldn't help it. Part of me wants to point out the hypocrisy in telling me to quiet when there's been freaking SING-A-LONGS going on in my hall before, but it was weird timing so I'll let it slide.
Oh, and apparently my current hairdo confuses some people as to who I am. Which is hilarious. Then again, at ASN I spiked it up all punk-like. This is the best haircut evar.
It's good to know that four people can fit in my room to watch TV pretty well. Next year when I have a bigger room WHO KNOWS. THERE COULD BE DANCE PARTIES. Alright, probably not, but that is a hilarious image. Note to self: attempt dance party.
So on Saturday The Drak and I decided to go antiquing, as there are a few of those types of places around the downtown. After hitting up the Asian Mart because apparently Drak needed ginger (and I needed good ramen--is it sad that I know the difference between types of ramen now?) and we both needed ramune soda (because it's cute!). Had breakfast at a diner-style place and then made the rounds. Discovered an awesome place that under-charges for things where the lady apparently collects planes (she didn't realize how amazingly awesome some of them were, because she had some EARLY style planes of awesome). Drak also found a piano that was the beautiful and started playing on it, because she's like that. I didn't object. As musicians are hot.
She found a Mafia Wife Coat (fur collar, the works), and I found a nice garrison cap that is WWII Corps of Engineers type. I found this out because I'm a dork and it called to me. Will have to show it off to my grandpa. May have to go back there and raid their hats, as I love hats. Love love love hats. When I get ahold of a camera and have time, I fully intend on photographing all my hats on me because my obsession is vast.
A nice old lady sold me some thread that I can use for my steampunk!Edea dress repair. Which I needed. It's a strong smooth thread which should be durable enough. Going to start on the small tears that I know how to fix and read up on the large seam problems (which aren't really so bad, just someone that was not tiny attempted to fit into the dress, sigh). Have informed my mom that I'll be taking off in August for Otakon, I still think cons weird her out a little and she doesn't quite get them, but eh. I'm almost 23. Not like I need permission, just being nice and letting them know I'll be gone out of state.
It was a good day to walk around, so we did that a lot. Stopped for beer and made comments about people we could see from the window. Found no less than five OTPs of varying gayness. Got a craving for sassafras tea, found none. Will investigate.
The river smelled like yick, though. It tends to, because that particular river gets dumped in lots. Fumes haven't killed us yet, though, so this is a good sign.
Since Drak and I are both kind of dorks for movies, we hit up the little college video place that I have an account with and rented more movies than we could rightly watch. Which means I had to copy a couple to my harddrive, as I am cheap and don't like paying for more than a day. Usually I end up deleting them, so whatever. I generally hate pirating movies, I just want to watch them when I can watch them and not get over-charged. So here's some recaps/thoughts on what we got.
Elizabeth: The Golden Age
Pretty pretty pretty pretty. Drak and I kind of want to join the monarchy now because they have awesome outfits (especially that era). While the historical accuracy was lacking, it didn't dwell too much on the romantic bits (THANK GOD) nor did it get too textbooky. Plus, Cate Blanchett is FANTASTIC and badass. Really just great to watch for the eye-candy of the cinematography, which is astounding and metaphorical and gorgeous. Have made icons. XD
Cheeky!
Yes, we knew this was softcore porn when we picked it up. But it was hilarious Italian softcore porn about the Ukeiest Girl Ever and her adventures in London. The main character's moods were pretty much determined by a series of ass shots. Movie didn't take itself seriously at all, which was I guess what I liked about it. European cinema doesn't make as big a deal about sex as American, so I guess I appreciated that too. Wouldn't recommend if you want to watch this with your grandparents or anything. And you would die if you made a drinking game out of the number of times the main character is disrobed or there is an ass shot, fair warning.
The Assassination of Jess James
tl;dr. Fell asleep watching this and didn't feel like trying to get through it. I'll bet it was good, but it took itself too seriously and was way too long for what it should have been.
Black Lagoon Volume 01
Not a movie, an anime, which I need to watch more of. Every cliche in the book, with lots of guns and pirates. Corporate whipping boy gets kidnapped by pirates, later joins them. Contains Mysterious Badass Black Guy, Hilarious Blonde Jewish American Tech Guy, Badass Chick With Barely Any Clothing, and Russian Mafia Chick of Hotness with Scars That Funds Them. Also had neo-Nazis in an episode as bad guys, and not only jumps the shark, but doesn't care that it jumps the shark constantly. <3 Hopefully will stay out of Dark Past territory and keep up with the gunfights and appearances by the hot Russian Mafia Chick.
Lust, Caution
Admittedly, I've been wanting to watch this for a while, because anything set in WWII, especially on the covert side pings me. Also, it's an Ang Lee film and I've decided I love Ang Lee. About a college student girl who's a bit on the shy side that joins up with a drama group that later become part of the resistance in Japan occupied China. They then decide to kill an official that works for the Japanese (even if he's Chinese) and use her as the bait. Intense movie that hit all my tragedy buttons and made me like the traitors more than the resistance--which isn't a surprise considering me, but very few movies pull off a bad guy that's really kind of empty and make you understand him. The main character girl was AMAZING and heartbreaking and managed a real fine line. Had the most artful sex scene in the history of sex scenes ever (which also didn't feel unnecessary as it was kind of crucial to the plot, something I also applaud) which managed not to squick me (as I'm a bit of a prude). Not good to watch if you're uncomfortable with anything harsh (because it's HARSH) or blood (though, there isn't MUCH of it, the couple of scenes it's in are rather memorable). I personally think the NC-17 rating is ridiculous, as despite the fact it does contain explicit scenes, it's not pornographic at all. I could probably ramble on about this movie for a while--it's good, everyone looks FABULOUS, and I love it. Oh and it's in Chinese, with subtitles.
tl;dr version: Drank with Aeros, have hat, watched movies. Weather is good.

And your antique stores sound awesome.
And I've read all these reviews of Lust, Caution and it sounds really really good. Darn you, NC-17 rating.
Anyway, good to hear you had a fun weekend! ^0^

I liked Jesse James but I admit it's probably not for everyone's tastes.
