Because I've finally had time to READ and play and shit! Yeah! Time off!

So let's start with YULETIDE that wonderful time of year I discover there are fics written for pretty much everything I can think of and a few I didn't!

Most important. THE STORY WRITTEN FOR ME.

Rope (which is a Hitchcock film if you didn't know)

Only As Creators Can We Destroy
I WAS SECRETLY HOPING THIS WOULD BE THE FANDOM. Because there is nothing quite like a movie based on a famous murder case (Leopold and Loeb) done by Hitchcock in an experimental non-editing style with canon gayness and the perils of Nietzsche philosophies! This was essentially exactly the kind of dissection I was hoping for and it was SO nice to get into Rupert's head, as I wanted so much more of him in that film. Cause yeah. You can also read this if you haven't seen the film because it's so well laid out and the whole murder thing is given in the first five minutes ANYWAY and yeah.

Go go now!

And other Yuletiders that are full of awesome and win:

The Breakfast Club

Friday
Alright, so I have a huge soft spot for Andy/Brian after having to write it my first Yuletide and this was cute. M/M

Boondock Saints

What Fact, Heavenly Mansion?
SMECKER!!!! Was my gal's gift, but it kind of feels like an extra gift for me too as Smecker was half the reason I love this movie so much. This gets in his head and shows you why there will never be an agent quite like Smecker. <3 GEN

Last Exile

At The Festival
Vincent, Alex, Sophia pre-series fic! Yaaaaay! And omg, Last Exile was in Yuletide at all? Double yaaaay! GEN

Leverage

Your head's a dead tomato splot with moldy purple spots, Mr. Grinch.
So. Freaking. Hilarious. The whole gang. Having shenanigans. Which is why I love the show. A lot. GEN

Thursday Lunch Cafe
Crosses over with Big Bang Theory, which I've seen enough episodes of to know I love Sheldon because ah, yeah. (I'd watch more, but like a lot of shows about "smart people" it gets a lot of their smart talk wrong and I'm sorry I KNOW IT'S WRONG I'M A ROCKET SCIENTIST) So to have him in a story with Parker, who is also socially challenged and sniping at each other basically is a Fantastic Idea. GEN

Lie to Me

Inconvenient Truths
Lovely lovely pre-series that focuses on the stuff that make Cal Lightman and Jillian Foster work as friends. Oh and Vegas. GEN

Mad Men

a little brown haired bride
Peggy! IN HER HEAD and basically full of nuanced win and exploring her differences with some of the other female characters and what she wants. M/F

men is never a full king
Joan! Roger! UST! Basically my favorite couple on the show (even if they're not...it's complicated ok???). Post latest season finale. M/F

Project Runway

The Secret Diary of Timothy M. Gunn
Uh, THE TITLE. Go! GEN

Saving Face

Yum Cha
I was surprised to see fic for this movie! Considering I just saw it this year I was so pleased, since it is one of my favorite Non Tragic Lesbian Movies, and just... yeah! Wonderful movie coda. F/F

Spy Game (the 2001 movie, not the show or something that is also named this)

Cloak or Dagger
Um... wow. So like, I tried to write a story like this once and it was spare and totally not plotty and kind of lame! This is like the plot I wanted to see after the movie, seriously. Soooo much thought went into it and it worked wonderfully and oh god the characterizations! Yes, this is a cheesy film, but it's one I really like because Nathan Muir (srsly, why are so many of my favorites NAMED NATHAN) is practically like My Type For Life and ugh! JUST HIT ME THERE WHERE MY TINY LITTLE HEART IS SUPPOSED TO BE. Basically takes the subtext of the movie and FLIES with it. Shut up there was subtext like crazy. M/M

And now other things!

Interactive Fiction

So I stayed up the night before my grades came out and did a lot of these! These were my favorites.

Photopia
Apparently some kind of classic IF that I had never run across. Really interesting and made me think a lot. Kind of an example in nonlinear story structure that is lovely.

Violet
This was so freaking cute, and even if I was sitting there trying to figure out the more puzzling aspects at least the hints were in fact useful and I didn't have to play find the verb much. It also lets you not be heteronormative, which was a feature that was strangely endearing to me, even if all it did was switch pronouns (but it's all about those pronouns, isn't it?).

Alabaster
A very interesting interpretation of Snow White, which ah, I admit to being mildly obsessed with. You're the Huntsman, and depending on your conversations with Ms. White and ah... others, you get lots of endings. I ended up with all the awesome ones completely by accident and then read the guide to find the less awesome ones. Really takes a lot of the symbolism to heart and the illustrations that change on the side were a really nice touch.

Flash Games

Every Day the Same Dream
Kind of an art game, but short enough you're not annoyed by its repetition. Brilliantly existential considering how simple it really is. Haunting too.

Boomshine
Just make chain reactions. This is apparently what my sister does when she's not doing homework.

Auditorium
Music, lights, and a nice learning curve. I'm currently still working through this one, but I love it.
