Komarr and A Civil Campaign

crankyoldmanWell I'm just breezing through these books now.
- OMG EKATERIN. I really love her. I think she's fantastic and so far putting my faith in Bujold to deliver up characters appropriately has not proven foolish. It's proven wonderful. I'm glad we got her POV too, it made for a much more balanced set of stories.
- Also, I really empathize with her dealings with Tien, in ways that a lot of writers have a hard time conveying. I'm glad that there was no complete monsterizing with him, but that he was still very cringey and rather despicable as a human being. At least to me. It made me exceeding glad my marriage didn't last that long and I didn't have kids with my Ex, let's just say.
- I VERY MUCH LOVE THAT MILES'S SCHEME TO GET HER TO LIKE HIM FAILED SO UTTERLY AND SPECTACULARLY.
- A Civil Campaign was probably one of the funniest in the series, and I really appreciated that. While Komarr was full of all sorts of amazing, really. I'm glad I basically read them back to back... in some ways, I think of them as parts of the same book, omnibus nonwithstanding.
- MARK. AND. KAREEN. I ADORE THEM SO MUCH. I loved that a good part of the book was about them, and omg. All the things with the butter bugs and just. TANTE CORDELIA SITTING DOWN KAREEN'S PARENTS ON THAT COUCH. ALL THE THINGS.
- Y HALO THAR LORD DONO. Aside from some of the androgynous kind, this is precisely the kind of man I'd go for. I spent a lot of time just rereading parts with him in it because god. SO HOT. YOU GO OLIVIA FOR GRABBING THAT BEFORE SOMEONE ELSE COULD. Those Koudelka girls are SO smart.
- Was it just me, or did every time Byerly and Ivan share a scene I kind of hoped it would end with them making out? Seriously. And all Vor are pretty much cousins, so it's not icky. IVAN YOU ARE PLAYING FOR THE WRONG TEAM, AS EVIDENCED BY YOUR INCREASING INABILITY TO GET ANY. ALSO I KNOW LADY DONNA SOUNDS RIDICULOUSLY HOT BUT WHY DID YOU NOT MAKE THAT YOUR INTRO INTO THE GAY. I WOULD HAVE. Also, I want to be his wingman. Ivan is so endearing.
- Oh god, Aral, every talk you do nearly brings me to tears. CHrist. That man. I WANT TO BE YOU WHEN I GROW UP.
- omg NIkki calling Gregor I LIKE THIS KID HE WILL FIT IN WITH THE VORKOSIGANS JUST FINE.
- I'm leaving a separate bullet point for EKATERIN'S PROPOSAL. FUCK. YEAH. I know how much nerve that took, girl! WAY TO FUCKING GO.
- I've met Enrique sorts before... how effing adorable. Martya, get on that.
- I AM VERY MUCH PLEASED WITH THE TURN THIS SERIES HAS TAKEN. I think that it's actually working as a series for me (I am not typically someone that reads series... I get bored with them very easily and tend to hate how THE BIG ANSWER TO SOMETHING keeps getting put off and more mysteries and bleh) because it is following a family and their lifetime, just a family that happens to be really epic. And that is really nice. And there are enough side characters for me to fanfic the hell out of as well, should I so desire (or if stories end up written about them I WOULD NOT COMPLAIN IN THE LEAST).
So yes, much enjoyment has been had.
