So, in order to weather this winter better than past winters, I'm going to try and do semi-regular entries on stuff that makes me happy.

I'm going to start with food.

Now, I'm not a proper foodie. For instance, I don't like seafood hardly at all, because I guess I just don't have a taste for it (some people taste soap when they eat cilantro, I think it's like that). Sushi is about as far as I've gotten. I'm slowly working up to it; Korean and Taiwanese friends have been helpful in this regard.

But anyway, since I have a phone with a camera, I've been taking pictures of food that just brings me intense joy. So I'm going to talk about some foods that have done that lately.

And yes, the way to my heart is through my stomach.

What I had for lunch today; Darko Taco. These come from a truck which sometimes parks just outside my office building. These are steak, but they also have meat choices like beef tongue. Which I have yet to try. The sauce the meat is cooked in is great, but it also comes with your choice of onions, cilantro, mozzarella cheese, and two kinds of salsa (green mild and AWESOME RED HOT SPICY which is on these).

It is delicious, and whenever the truck shows up my day is automatically better.

Avers "Cream and Crimson" Pizza. This is some crazy pizza. Has alfredo sauce instead of tomato, slices of potato with gorgonzola cheese, BACON, cheddar, and seasoned with dill and garlic. I love it so much. It tastes so intensely good.

Falafels is an Israeli food place, and my favorite dish is this. Mashed potatoes with sweet potatoes on top, grilled asparagus and unidentifiable but TASTY sauces, falafels (fried chickpea balls), and hummus. Sprinkled liberally with tarragon and sesame. One of the healthier tasties I like.

R Bistro is a fancy food place with a casual atmosphere and really good taste in music (I heard several Verve Remixed songs, which makes me happy). I went up there with the family before the Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert, because we are fancy sometimes. The chef that runs the place changes her menu every week and gets her food locally, which is intense.

This dish was the vegetarian offering, because we all ordered something different (and I ended up eating bits of everyone else's stuff too. I'd already chowed down a bit before taking this pic. XD Anyway, this is Orecchiette (a type of noodle) with roasted butternut squash, sage, and parmesan. There's a few apples and onions in there too. It basically tastes like autumn. Seriously. If I were to assign a taste to the season, it would be this.

Yes, this is ramen. In a mug. So, ramen is my comfort food, full stop. I am someone who enjoys salty more than sweet, so ramen is kind of perfect. I also have a bit of a thing for starchy foods. Anyway, I will eat any kind of ramen (except Oriental flavor... just a tad too much fish) but this particular brand and flavor is my favorite. And that's Sapporo Ichiban's Miso Ramen. The fact it's in a mug is tell in how I eat it too; I use the hot pot to boil water, pour it over the ramen, and presto tasty.

Honorable mentions that I didn't photograph: Esan Thai's tasty yellow curry and thai tea, Uptown Cafe's potato omelet and Earl Grey, and Roots' fritatta with ginseng tea.

Those tacos look damned good.

Re: the falafel plate (which also looks damned good), it's intensely weird for me to just see them sitting there like that, since I'm used to eating falafel in the traditional sandwich form. If I had to venture a guess, I'd say one of the sauces was some sort of tahini, since that's generally what's served with falafel. Tahini-based sauces are extremely common condiments in Middle Eastern cuisine. It's made from ground sesame seeds (the type varies with the region) and is also the prime ingredient in hummus. The more you know! *whoosh*
