Request! A Post About Cartoons

Alright, since I took myself Way Too Seriously as a kid, I didn't actually watch much cartoons, not compared to my peers. I actually watched a ton of MTV or PBS during my prime cartoon targetted years. So. Um. Yeah. But, I did watch some, so here's my favorites in no particular order:
David The Gnome
He was on during the time that Nickelodeon didn't have the "gross" cartoons that my mom hated (Ren and Stimpy comes to mind), so I could watch it. This is very much an example of hippie brainwashing, but it was cute. I liked it a lot. Partly explains why I like dwarves (YES I KNOW THERE IS A DIFFERENCE) so much. I'd watch this and Eureka's Castle around the same block of time.
Rainbow Brite
Actually, I didn't watch the cartoon as much as use the coloring books, but this cartoon is what you get when people on acid decide they want to make a kid's show. XD Alright, the concept was adorable. I love how utopian-ist people that developed like 80s and 90s cartoons were for a while.
Doug
Well, before Disney fucked it up. I was super in love with this cartoon because it spoke to my introverted self a lot.
Recess
Alright, so I was a bit over the target age when this came out, but it reminded me of when I was a gang leader on the playground. Art was kind of ugly, but I kind of was a little in love with the characters. I would probably still watch this, even if it's predictable.
Inspector Gadget
And here's what got me into crime novels, film noir, fedoras, and other such things. I kid you not. I took particular glee in the fact it was really his niece doing the work and found it kind of sweet of her to not blow his cover. Also, evil dude + white cat? AWESOME.
Anything involving Donald Duck evar
I was about two when I decided he was the coolest cartoon character evar, and he's probably the main reason I sat through Kingdom Hearts. Nobody could make me laugh like Donald. I kind of laugh at this now, considering my cranky old man fixation. This includes the other ducks in the family, Scrooge McDuck also holds a particularly large part of my heart, because he's the illegitimate lovechild of Dickens and Disney. This meant I got into Duck Tales.
Darkwing Duck
Omgomgomg. I was really into this one, I think it's still my favorite cartoon of all time, with Gadget a close second. First off, it had a duck, which translated to automatic awesome, and he was also a superhero, but he wasn't particularly good. Also, snappy one-liners. Plus another adopted girl figure... god, I have patterns even before I was old to recognize them what?! This is really weird, now that I look back on it. XD
Um, anything else wasn't really, well, watched enough. I just didn't ever really watch as much TV as most kids... I had a backyard and it was awesome. Considering half of these were mostly watched in jr high/high school... crazy. I wish I were old enough to have caught Beastwars or even Ninja Turtles... or my mom hadn't cleverly hidden the TV guide from me. XD

Date: 2008-03-13 09:34 pm (UTC)I never liked those shows all that much, though.
So instead I was raised on Animal Planet, Discovery Channel, and the National Geographic Channel. Because educational TV was okay.
So instead I ran around pretending I was an alligator/horse/dog/lion/tiger/bear/ oh my! ...I tried fish once but it never really worked out. Same with rabbit. They hop funny.
And oh, I remember Recess. Recess was awesome. And I really liked Doug, too.
And of course Pokemon. I think it goes without saying that any kid in my generation watched Pokemon.
OH! AND HISTERIA! That's what I watched a ton when I was a kid. Making fun of history at 6:00 AM. Right after Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century on Kids WB. I'd wake up early before school to watch it... It was only on for two seasons, though. D:

Date: 2008-03-13 10:33 pm (UTC)With the exception of the Gnome one which I didn’t watch since we didn’t have cable back in those days I enjoyed watching all of those. Darkwing Duck was so incredibly awesome (but...but Darkwing Duck isn’t moral ambiguous and Gosalyn was in on it) and Recess was like Hogan’s Heroes for kids. Penny and Brain made Inspector Gadget for me. While I can’t actually remember most of Rainbow Bite I do remember renting the movie for it several times and enjoying it.
My parents were pretty okay with the cartoon watching as long as we did other actives as well. I personally got away with more than my other siblings because ended up waking up for the six o’clock shows. Watching cartoons used to be a big family affair that and Star Trek.
