Mmm, springy

Oh, it's definitely springtime now, we've gone for a week above freezing. I'm excited because I have Sir Percival (my cactus) in addition to a new little indoor herb garden. Back home this season was always exciting because my sister and I got to go to a greenhouse and pick up seedling and plant tomatoes, flowers, whatever we felt like growing that year. I even planted a lilac bush which is still growing at my parents' place, because lilacs are pretty hardkore.
Admittedly, I'm fond of gardening. It's one of those things that catches on when you live around farmers, they share tricks and have greenhouses and it's awesome.
I got worried about Percy because my dad apparently was an idiot and watered him this winter (little known fact, you're really not supposed to water cactii in the winter, it's their resting season) so he got some skin damage (but not rot, THANK GOD). I have to wait for him to show signs of wanting to grow new spines before he's fully in Springtime growing mode. He's a tiny little barrel cactus with large spines, which reminded me of fencing foils, so that's why he's named Sir Percival. He's a knightly plant.
But the herbs! I'm looking up extra care instructions because the package didn't give me much to go off of (besides "PUT IT OUTSIDE UNTIL THE SEEDS SPROUT" which is totally unhelpful as I live IN A DORM). Just some chamomile, lemonbalm, and spearmint. I do hope I get enough sunlight in this room, the window faces South, so.
Other than the plant babble (I miss having a plot of land :<) the family drove up to celebrate my dad's birthday. We had good Italian food. It was nice and relaxing and cool. We got dad a really funny card and this huge universal remote (when I say huge, it's like bigger than my head) because he squints at the buttons on most remotes.
Now I shall do some more spring cleaning. Because it's awesome and makes me feel happy. God, I love it when it's obvious winter is losing.

P.S. DON'T FORGET THIS POLL PLZ.

Date: 2008-03-21 12:50 am (UTC)My mom always wanted us to do gardening but my siblings and I were always too lazy for hard work, we were shameful children.
Are you hoping to brew your own tea?
Good luck with your cleaning and I hope your good mood continues.

P.S. Since you moved, do I have your new address? Part of Spring Cleaning is going through my address book and making sure all my stuff is updated.
