So much to do, so little time
Feb. 5th, 2010 10:34 amGaaah, catching up with things after Douchecon '77 is being not so easy. I have sewing things I want to do, writing things I want to do, a fic exchange assignment that is out, plus I sort of made a mess of the kitchen as my parents are in Hawaii. XD
Where's that time machine that'll give me more time in the day when I need it?
In good news, I have been charged with getting a couple of our "self starter" interns something to start on. Which means I will be teaching them the basics and guiding them along some C++ programming. Now I'm not an expert, and a lot of my programming knowledge comes from it being thrown at me (I did a lot when I worked for the Air Force, which involved me having to hack fucking LISP, which is BALLS) and it sort of being all over engineering coursework (hi matlab).
I'm basically putting them in the mindset to be able to do work that the Production guys will give them when they are not under a crazy deadline (several things are being made right now, it's exciting) and I figure that some C++ isn't a bad thing to learn, and working in a text environment will help them understand the mechanics behind what cool stuff they want to make.
That's my theory at least. I know that's what my CGT friends had to do; take basic art and programming classes before they got into the other environments. I remember them bitching at me about their C++ homework and debugging it, so!
Will be fun. In between finding some lit review stuff for this grant I'm helping with, I'll be developing a sort of lesson plan. Maybe I should get a Masters in Education too... I actually am kind of all excited about this, whut?
Though, it was funny in the intern meeting, they were all, "hey can we talk to the production guys to get started" and they're like SO BUSY and I was like, "oh I can get them started, I've a decent knowledge of programming" and they looked at me like I grew another head. Ha ha, whoops, forgot I was a girl. Oh boys.
