Permit me a moment to feel poetic

crankyoldmanToday I was alone my entire drive to work.
I don't mean that there were few cars. There were no cars. It had started to snow when I woke up and by the time I was driving, it was clouding up a certain amount of the treeline, because we lack the buildings around here to make a skyline. It was just starting to stick in some areas, and I had to go a little slower--not like I drive particularly fast, but there's something about country roads that makes a person do an average of 50 mph (80.47 km/h, for your metrics) without thinking. Even at the slower speeds, the snow was light enough to barely brush my car, so the windshield wipers were unnecessary.
There's just something about having a white out landscape to yourself that says... I'm not sure.
I've spent a couple New Year's days like this, especially when I was working at the movie theater. Inevitably I was the only person sober enough to open, so it was another longish path of white. It might not always snow on Christmas, but it tends to snow on New Year's out here.
It's so quiet. Like outer space, only white.
I have to say though, it's probably my favorite way to start out the year. Quietly.
