UM YEAH ALSO WAS READ WHEN I WAS A TEENAGER. AND MY PARENTS BOUGHT ME HANNIBAL RISING BECAUSE THEY GAVE UP TRYING TO GET ME TO LIKE LESS MORBID THINGS.
Film adaptation thoughts:
- I like both versions of Red Dragon (Red Dragon and Manhunter) for different reasons. But I don't think either of them get it completely right. But they are fun to watch nonetheless.
- SILENCE OF THE LAMBS IS AMAZING. It's how I got into the series. Like my dad and I were doing a campus visit and it was on the cable TV channel (the scene with the autopsy of the body in the river and peeps are like "lol Clarice your poor lady eyes" and she's like "fuck this bullshit") and I was SO FASCINATED but my dad was squeamish and since this was before netflix and before I had my own Blockbuster card I couldn't rent the movie and found out it was books but that it was the SECOND book so I had to read Red Dragon first and... yeah that was an overlong story for me saying I loved it.
- Hannibal was horrible mainly because that is not Clarice and I have a lot of fond memories about how I read the book on a bus on the way to New Orleans and it was like I SQUEED AT THE FUCKING ENDING OK WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME and then like THEY CHANGED IT IN THE MOVIE. AND WRONG CLARICE. AND WTF WAS UP WITH THE BAD GUY HE WAS TOO MUCH CHEESE. I wanted to like it because the book is something of a not-so-guilty pleasure but ah no. Only bits that were fun was some of the stuff in Florence and Krendler getting his comeuppance.
- I haven't seen Hannibal Rising and don't plan on it unless it shows up on netflix and I'm bored. I was a tad disappointed in the book so yeah. Partly because I didn't really care about that part of Hannibal's life so much (I WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT HIS LATER PROFESSIONAL LIFE MORE BEFORE HE GOT LOCKED UP WHICH IS WHAT THIS SHOW IS DOING) and yeah.
