Alright, so that lab practical I thought I failed... I didn't. In fact, I did pretty good despite. Not perfect, like I had before, but not tragic. I need to do pretty good on the final but an A is still possible.
My pilot lecture... omg, this is the best thing ever. So apparently, I only have to get a 50% on the final to have a C. A MOTHERFUCKING C! I THOUGHT I WAS FAILING. If I get a 92%, I GET A B. So studying for that exam I took this morning that was optional was FULL OF WIN!
Kids, you don't have to be smart, you just have to be really goddamn tenacious to make it in engineering. True fact. Smarts help, but they can be worked around.
Good things include my complete win at this paper, which while still not done is really getting there. One more huge spurt and it'll be done. I kind of love this subject, creativity and education are sort of dear to my heart. Hopefully this will mean I get sleep, as I want to sleep. XD Means I miss the Women in CS dinner (ah, I know someone in CS, and they go have beer, and she invited me), but oh well.
Alright, I need off the internet before I waste more time. I WILL FINISH AND TRIUMPH. This is what being stubborn does, it gives you ulcers and surprisingly ok grades!

P.S. Oddness: apparently if you put Rufus Shinra in a story, suddenly people want to read your Before Crisis fanfic. Why does this only confirm my suspicions about humanity?
P.P.S. OMFG I WANT TO ADOPT THIS GIRL. Ahem. Sorry. I know it's unoriginal, but I'm such a fangirl.
P.P.P.S. Bowie, your wife is hot. Damn.

Date: 2008-04-25 01:02 pm (UTC)I can see the Lu/Iffy stuff not being as popular because of the slash (even if it was mostly subtext but if you’re seeing it as Lu/Iffy and you don’t know the author I’ve learned you usual assume the worse because there’s a lot you can do with a G rating but then I think I’ve regressed from wanting to read romance to just cuteness as while reading Night Watch I fan girl whenever Vimes mentions Sybil), Lucrecia herself has a worse rep than even Cloud in the fandom and unless you watch the Icicle Inn tapes all you see of Iffy is her dying (which I didn’t my first few times playing through) so it’s unlikely for someone to have much interest in her it’s like the whole mother thing people usual don’t write about mom’s outside of them being mom’s so I’m not sure the majority of the fandom can relate to that kind of character. Mom’s are mom’s so you don’t realize they have back stories it’s like how kids don’t think their teachers have lives. I adore Iffy now but I hadn’t thought much about her before you started writing Veld and reading over the BC scripts where Aeris mentions recognizing something about Elfe or some such she wouldn’t have clicked with me.
Sailor Moon has a huge section of the pit so it can’t purely be because of the lacking of hot guys, also it’s my understanding Poison Ivy/Harley Quinn is rather popular. It’s more likely the people who are interested don’t know they would be if that makes any sense.
Though, how there isn’t an enormous onslaught of Elena fiction completely and utter mystifies me. She is a brash, aggressive, nearly innocent but not quite young lady surrounding by attractive men who is in love with an old darker man who is in a position of authority over her, goodness graces that’s like the building blocks for almost all female fantasy heroines out there all she needs is a mentor and a pet/strange ability. At least, I don’t think there are but I don’t actually like reading about villains unless there are good guys involved so I’m not so much in the Turk fandom.
Sorry that ended up being so long.

Honestly have no idea. Shocks me too. Maybe the self-inserting is just too obvious that way?
And you're right, but I do think that video game fandoms at least seem to have a bit of a bias. XD And I read a lot of stories just for the title, this is why I spend a lot of time trying to think of good titles.

Date: 2008-04-27 02:15 am (UTC)For the most part the interactions between the female characters are fairly limited. A good example would be Tifa’s relationships with Cloud and Barret vs. the one she has with Aeris. More than a good portion of the plot is wrapped up with her relationship with Cloud and Tifa and Barret start off with a friendship and they continue it through the game through various dialogues and I’m pretty sure out of all the characters who are not Cloud they speak to each other the most, while Tifa and Aeris have one bonding conversation over cross dressing then they girl chat and that’s about it, other than Tifa’s comment’s on Aeris death. I could be wrong as I only had Aeris in my party my first game before I realized she died and didn’t want to wasted time leveling her up on other games. That said outside of the big three most of the in AVALANCHE relationships between each other weren’t fleshed out but this leads to point three.
Also a lot of the girls lack a common point of bonding as you usual have a princess, a fighter, the ordinary girl, and the magic girl all from diverse backgrounds all involved in the general quest for different reasons. With the boys you usual get to see them interacting and in turn get to see that point of bonding of course this one isn’t all always the case as FFX has all the girls coming together but then while I disliked the game it did have well developed characters.
So I guess I’m trying to say to work with girl characters you have to either gutsy or new to the fandom and have to be willing to do a lot of canon manipulation.
While I will say several of the themes in Archetypically reminds me of Sailor Moon, I can see why it’s not your kind of thing. I enjoy it as much as I do because it has practically everything I love rolled up into one story: fantasy, science fiction, all the types of love, friendships, kick butt girls along with an awesome maternal tough girl, fairytales, Greek myths, having to choose between what makes you happy and duty and realize it’s not about duty, epic feel, you know it’s a tragedy but it’s about hope. While it far from perfect it was the first manga of its type I’d ever read and I have lots of warm fuzzes whenever I think about it.
