WE FOUND MY MOM A WII!!!

She really wanted one, and since her birthday is the 16th, Dad and I are officially awesome. All the points are belong to us. It's at least one piece of technology that she's not afraid of (attempts at assuring her that the internet will not eat her have been in vein. I blame the news and the fact that she still believes everything on TV is true *sigh*). We'll need to hook it up so that she can turn it on in the middle of the day, instead of watching HGTV and playing bubblet on her Palm Pilot when she needs to sit down.

So I've been browsing the music blogs again.

My major problem with a lot of music blogs is, well, they tend to be indie rock. And while I like a certain amount of indie rock, a very large majority of it makes me want to drink heavily. Or it sounds like the same guy singing about Vermont or something equally strange. I know, everyone has their guilty pleasures (I like Madonna and Aerosmith, I think they qualify). Maybe it's my leanings towards orchestral/electronic/dance that really makes it so a lot of indie rock doesn't impress me. I don't know. I like folk, oddly, just when it starts sounding like something that will be used to ironic effect on a bad art film...

Or maybe it's just indie rock fans that get to me. I mean, I like heavy metal. I like pretentious Japanese noisepunk too. I like music. Even people I generally dislike (Avril Lavigne, Britney Spears) will sometimes give me a song that I end up liking.

Maybe I'll just stick to Urbanology (which has a very interesting variety that a ton of music blogs lack). Then again Three Pints And a Towel looks promising. And Who Killed The Mixtape? might be in the rotation now, because yeah. Mixtapes.

Alright, Three Pints wins. The song "Take It Back" by She & Him (which is Zooey Deschanel singing, I love her voice, it's really bluesy) will likely be on repeat for a while. I feel better now.

Nerd assimilation continues. Minion M seemed antsy when I got to work today, and while I was filling up the fridge with more Coke (we go through it like crazy, and the policy for the kitchen is "be nice and refill". Soon as I sat down, he goes, "So have you seen Battlestar Galactica: Razor?" And I knew he was just waiting to fanboy with me. Which was amusing and fun. Then again, I have a tiny Tifa figure and some Tigh and Adama mini-mates on my desk.

Funniest part was when Minion J came into work.

J: So have you heard about FF4 for the DS?
Me: Only like, months ago.
J: You need a DS.
Me: Not yet!
J: You want to touch mine?
Me: ...I'm just going to look at you like you're a stranger trying to give a kid candy.
J: Kain looks badass.
Me: Cecil sounds awesome. I think.
J: There's VOICES?
Me: Dude, you call yourself a nerd and you don't know that?
J: Shut up, I'm married. I have to, you know, talk to my wife sometimes.
Me: Uh huh. You just don't like being out-geeked.

I'll admit, a DS is ridiculously tempting. I have the money for it right now, as I just got enough money to pay for tuition next year just last month. Next check and I could have one. I also have told myself not to get games/systems/anything until I'm graduated. I'm torn. I know the DS system would be the one to get first, before getting a real console. All sorts of fun things are coming out for it too. Gah. Minion J is the devil. And The World Ends With You is really cute and I like the music I heard.

And the best way to make cold chicken taste better on a sandwich is to add hot sauce. Truefact.

Project Runway starts up again in a week. God, I'm such a dork. And on my mom's birthday. I need to find a way to watch it without looking like a jerk. Hrm.

Can I mention that I love Hitherby Dragons? God, I love that story.

My dad had to elbow someone at Sam's Club for it. He'd been watching to see if Best Buy had them, and they had 12, which went quickly, but since my dad is smert he then checked out other wholesalers. Success.

And ha, it's totally my mom's Wii which likely means that I won't get to play it, since she's kind of the most awesome reflex gamer I know. Truefact. The minions want to challenge her to a Megaman tournament. I told them they might cry.

My twelve year old sister kills everyone on the Wii to the extent that no one wants to play her anymore.

Ha. But she's also twelve. This is my mom. I'm supposed to be better than that, I am SURROUNDED BY TECHNOLOGY. IT IS MY WORK AND MY LIFE.

I suppose twelve year olds are considered more tech savvy than adults, especially adults who never game, but she beats my boyfriend and gaming is his favourite pastime.

I think you can still have geek cred if you just say, like I do, that you suck at *those types of games.* Remember to act all superior, like the sorts of games you like are clearly better. Heh.

Awesome for your mom!

If DS were a bit less expensive I would own one purely to play FF4 without feeling guiltily because I’ve gotten graphics cards for seventy plus to play one game.

I have no idea who I prefer now but as a child I preferred Kain to Cecil purely because Cecil was somewhat whiny, now I'm not sure.

Ha, I think FF4 is one of the few times I actually get the good guys and am utterly flabbergasted by the villains. Then again the grey area is different in that game. Plus, stealing your best friend's girl by kidnapping her is a bitch move in my book.

The minions and I had a lot of jokes about dragoons and why you can't just walk up and stab someone, you have to jump to stab them, it was hilarious. XD

Off hand I can’t think of any game were I get the villains motives with the expectation of final fantasy 12 that was one of my favorite parts of the game. Then from a fiction stand point being good is general more practical.

Isn’t Cecil about the same he did torch a town and pillage another for his dark master? ;p

Yes, but he got better. /Monty Python quote

Naw, I just get his moral dilemmas a bit more, I guess. And paladins. <3

His victims also got to take out their frustrations on him in amusing ways so all was atoned.

Cecil is one of my favorites as unlike most video game characters he had a good redemption story and a simple romance. Paladins are also very awesome.

Yeah. Him and Rosa kind of warm my grey little heart. I kind of feel bad that a lot of people find her "boring". She's such a steady person. <3

Though, thinking about this has me babbling about meta. I'll put it up in [community profile] viniel. Because writing meta is fun. XD

Dude, Rosa was pratical the only character in the game who actually did anything without being forced by the situation her so she is the most awesome out of the main three.

And I will stop talking to you so you can meta.

Spoony bards compell. And Cecil's voice is strangely hot. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKmuaU2WoKg) Kain's kind of cracks me up. It's like, "how does that skinny little punk have a voice like that?"

If I get it before you, I promise not to rub it in. XD

If you like electronica, you may enjoy Shiny Toy Guns or Freezepop. Also, I'll add that indie music just means that the artists are independent of labels, so even NIN and Radiohead are indie bands. ;p I feel that it's impossible to say anything definitive about indie because there's indie folk, indie rock, indie country, indie jazz... You never know what you'll find. :-)

Now, those hipsters and hipster bands... THEY are what I don't like. I'm an indie music fan because of the creativity, but I stay the fuck away from the hipster camp. :-)

Ha, I figured. And I meant hipster. Because I suck at remembering names. I like indie LABELS. But hipsters. Yeah. Annoying.
