Michaels (http://www.michaels.com/art/online/home) is where I got the majority of my jewelry notions--the useful bits like the earring hooks and clasps, etc. Any sort of craft store should have the basic stuff.

Wire wrapping just requires some time playing around with it. You have to understand the material you're wrapping, it's kind of like a structures problem. If it's an odd shaped object you're wrapping, like a stone, you just need to make sure the majority of the weight is supported, so that's where you need to have some wire to catch it. I suppose this would be better told with pictures. XD

I can't draw, so maybe that's a trade off. Only way to learn how to make stuff with your hands is to look at other stuff, and play with it.
