Girlytimes

I interrupt my regularly scheduled geekery to be girly for a bit.
So my BPAL stuff came in today; I'd always been curious since Drak started getting them, and she usually smells rather nice. I am going to ramble now about what I got, because it's fun and I have a half hour and focus is not with me atm. XD
I orderedseven six samplers (Imp's Ears, as they charmingly call them), and I got two extra (maybe for Halloween? I've got no complaints) for no charge. Can't complain about that.
THE ANTIKYTHERA MECHANISM
Bronze gears spin inside a polished wooden case, and an entire universe dances within. Teakwood, oak, black vanilla, and tobacco.
Got this one because it sounded more like something I'd want my room to smell like than myself--I do have a fondness for the smell of tobacco (but not the smoke) and it's very subtle in this, but I can recognize it. I may find some reeds and use it in an old bottle of mine diffuser style (diluted, of course). Too bad they don't allow fire around here, it would work well in an oil burner.
JAILBAIT
Innocence defiled. Sticky pink bubblegum and the thick, sweet scent of orange and cherry lollipops smeared over a breath of heady womanly perfume.
Smells like sex and candy, no really. This will go with several costumes of mine. XD Which is kind of wrong, but true. I enjoy irony.
NERFERTITI
“The Beautiful One Is Come”. Egyptian iris and olibanum with red and white sandalwood, soft myrrh and a breath of North African herbs.
I had a huge Egyptology phase, and this makes me hope I get to travel more in my life. I imagine Marina from The L Word smells like this.
OPHELIA
Wistful and vulnerable: lotus, water blossom ivy, stargazer lily and white rose.
My favorite. Hands down. This is like my favorite perfume that my aunt gave me (Tea Rose... I don't care if it's an old lady perfume, I'd rather smell like a flower than a fruit) only way less heavy and more wearable. I like it so much I want the full bottle. It just smells like beautiful.
PRAGUE
For Jenny, with love. Crocus with snowdrop and three lilies.
Smells like, well, a snow queen who's been dethroned. If that makes any sense. Kind of sad, cold, and subtle.
THE QUEEN OF HEARTS
Lily of the Valley, Calla Lily, stephanotis and a drop of cherry.
And this is being used to freshen my Edea dress next time I pull it out. Lily of the Valley is my birth flower, and this smells very regal and a little, well, dark. Ha, that would be a crossover.
Bonuses!
NERO
The pinnacle of power, poisoned by sin and indulgence - this is our homage to Classical Roman debauch. Rosemary, bay, pine and a touch of lemon.
I would have overlooked this one, but I quite like it. My mom would be allergic to it (she's allergic to pine). I'm quite a bit fond of rosemary.
WOLFSBANE
Notorious for its properties for protection against werewolves and curing lycanthropy, this nefarious plant also has a fine history of use as a virulent poison. Clasically, Medea employed it in her many works of vengeance. This concoction of ours has none of the lethal qualities, but still personifies all of the herb's dark history beautifully.
Intimidating. I mean, geez, if someone walked by with this on, I'd prolly give them a little space. Not because they smelled bad, I'd just be afraid they'd turn me into a toad.

Date: 2008-09-29 07:48 pm (UTC)The first one must be new, I don't recall seeing it the last time I had a look around the site. Another one to add to the list, I guess. Mine goes:
Coyote
Ulalume
Brimstone
Hell's Belle
Whip
Glasgow
The last one is amusing, because I used to go to school in Glasgow, and the only smell I remember was of wet pavement and cigarette butts. Hopefully this will be slightly different.

Date: 2008-09-29 11:12 pm (UTC)"Jailbait" is the BEST idea for a perfume, heh. And while Nero sounds like it smells divine, I especially appreciate their choice of authentic Roman dinner-party garland herbs :P
