crankyoldman: "Hermann, you don't have to salute, man." [Pacific Rim] (nina kill)

But I'm in freaking northern Ohio, where there's SNOW and I need the warm glow of the computer to keep me from freezing.

Ok, kidding. But I am a little bored, and I have wireless here. So have some fun things I've caught up with!

- Approval, does it matter?

- Some crazy musics.

- Match calendar.

- Really awful sex scenes.

- Writer friends might like this.

- The Macy's Rickroll video.

I'm unsure why it keeps coming up, maybe it's because of the season, but I've been annoyed a lot lately.

I think there's a fair bit of snobbery going around, and I don't like it. Not one bit. It's not a matter of one person liking something and another not liking that--this is human nature, it's what keeps us individuals and makes us a nice variety from one another.

No, there's been just plain snobbery, which just a tad of entitlement going around.

I like talking about things that are both "serious" and silly. I think it's because I don't want to take myself TOO seriously and become a complete bore, nor do I want to be a clown. I can get really emotional about things, but I've learned to take a deep breath and wait before hitting the keyboard. I'd like to think I'm generally patient too. I could be wrong. XD

But if there's one thing that will probably annoy me, unequivocally, it is when someone gets snobby about something they like. Hell, I've gotten that way before too, I'm not perfect, but I tend to feel bad when I notice it. Or Drak tells me. But lately it seems to have reached a certain degree in which I am starting to feel ashamed for my less than amazing things I'm into. Which is ridiculous. So I've decided to stop that, and just get out what's been bothering me, in bullet form.

- Fine, so you don't like Final Fantasy or you like other games better. I'm cool with that! But I do. Not because I think they are superior games or world-changing or whatever. It was just a series I started with, and I like it. I even like the crazy fandom that comes with it. No matter how much you talk about some other game you like or how superior something is, you will not make me like it less. In fact, you're turning me off to the games you love, because you're being such a snob about it. Not everyone had an Atari when they were kids! Gamer culture is intimidating to start in as late as I did, and I find it annoying that I still have to defend what I like. So I'm not going to anymore. You don't want to hear me babble, then don't read. I'll do the same for certain types of rants. Hell, I haven't even STARTED on my love of Legacy of Kain, which I hear lots of gamers didn't get into.

- Yes, I read a lot of stuffy books that are a part of English class curriculum. For fun! I don't do this to lord over anyone and some of them I don't end up liking. But the ones I do end up liking, I like. I don't turn my nose up at newer stuff. But I don't find ONLY reading new stuff in an attempt to buck the current English class curricula to be particularly innovative, or smart. In fact, I find it childish. Maybe it's the history minor part of me, but it's good to know BOTH old and new. Fluff and dense. Maybe I don't like your brand of fluff, or you don't like my brand of dense, but again, people are different. And I'm ok with that. Sure, it's different because I'm not graded for reading stuff. But back when I was in English class, I was one of the kids that LOVED poetry analysis and crazy stuff like that. Maybe I just like taking things apart. I dunno.

- Alright, so satire and parody is fun and hilarious. But I kind of feel bad for the people that like Twilight (and other things like it) because they know it's fluff and not because they think it's this intense love story (or because they just like the genre). Hell, I felt the same way about Harry Potter to be honest. Fun fluff, not anything that groundbreaking. I think it goes with age. Sure, it worries me that it's aimed at younger people, who don't realize that Romeo and Juliet is in fact a terrible example of Tru Wuv, but we all have something. I mean, I'm a fan of really bad spy/thriller novels and movies. That's basically the genre I will ALWAYS watch/read, no matter my mood or inclination. And really, if you've seen The Sentinel and know that I actually paid MONEY to see it, then you'll know how bad my obsession really is. I actually LOVED Hannibal Rising. Some people are dorks for vampires (though I liked Van Helsing too... it was just FUN and DRACULA WITH PONYTAIL). I think we all get now that it's awful. Or not. Or whatever. Link me hilarious videos (and I'll link you), but find something else to talk about, please? And no, I haven't read it, but it's because I haven't had the desire to, either to make fun of it or to like it. I sort of want to just go see the movie, because I want to see the sparkly parts. XD

- Um... there is no point four.

Not a lot, but yeah. I feel better now. Being away from school lets me think for a bit.

So much agreement with everything you said.

I don't understand why we can't all just agree that we like different things in different ways, and that's okay.

Like, I know you like FF6 more than FF7 (which, despite all the crap they've done with it is my favorite, and I'm not ashamed, it's what pulled me in, and that gives it a special place, if only for that), but I'm not going to argue with you about it, because we have different reasons why we like one more than the other! It's all opinion, there's no measurement scale of awesomeness.

Hell, I hate Evangelion, but I don't disagree that it was a groundbreaking deconstruction anime. Just because I don't like it doesn't make it bad.

Since I joined fandom (well, rejoined) I've gotten much less anti-FF7 and I can acknowledge some of the good things about it. I can recognize why it was so groundbreaking of a game, but it's like how some people like Donne and Marvell while some like Chandler and Rand. It doesn't make one better than the other, just different.

there's no measurement scale of awesomeness - YES. Just the other day someone was talking about how just because Citizen Kane is super famous and widely considered the greatest movie EVAR, doesn't mean that everyone is going to like it!

While you shouldn't voice your dislikes in poor taste or at the expense of others, it seems wrong to say it's wrong I suppose. And wow, you must deal with older games.

I don't think it's necessarily wrong (it's a free country!) but I find it really really really really annoying.

Granted, I visited the minions at work. XD Oh boys.

Addendum: Like, I like how you present your dislikes the most out of anyone. You state it like opinion, babble a bit, and that's that. It doesn't feel so much like an attack as it can with some people.

And considering how unlike we are, I figure we've got a decent amount of agree to disagree. XD

But yeah. Stay classy. <3
