Alright, so either my brain is telling me that my hobbies and interests don't fundamentally go together, or they do and I secretly want to be on reality TV (and I don't... seriously). But I had a very hilarious mashup of a dream. Note that I only like reality TV where they're doing something creative (minus the season or two of America's Next Top Model, which I watch primarily for the makeover episode to see these girls complain about people cutting their hair oh noes). Also, a quick google search will reveal the people if you don't recognize the names.
So I'm on this "art competition" show. It's not one type of art, it's like, "make whatever the hell we tell you to make". Since reality TV casts people in certain lights, despite it supposedly being "real" I was obviously cast as the quirky oddball freakazoid (among ARTISTS and REALITY TV PERSONALITIES... something makes me chuckle about this a lot). Anytime they had those talking head moments (you know, when they just show a person and they comment on something, oftentimes edited between the action) they had my name and ROCKET SCIENTIST under it, even though I wasn't done with school yet as it listed my current age. Maybe "aerospace engineering student" was too long.
Some of my favorite people from Project Runway were there (Like Austin Scarlett, Stella Zotis, and Laura Bennett), someone I liked from America's Next Top Model (Elyse Sewell), and my favorite hyperactive love-to-hate Eddie Ross from Top Design, because every reality show needs a villain. There were several other people that were like random bit characters that were obviously just there to fill in spaces, so I don't remember them by name and they're probably not "famous".
The Judges were Nina Garcia (Runway), Niles (ANTM), Laura Roslin (...yes from BSG, the mixes started happening here), with a guest judge of Cory Doctorow for the first challenge. Yes. I love my unconscious mind sometimes.
So first challenge involved them giving us a book (like a blank hardback journal) and told to develop a 3-D "concept piece" out of it. Since I'm a techno-optimist (...really) I tried to duplicate something like The Young Lady's Illustrated Primer from The Diamond Age, and I managed to get it to light up and stuff, which was cool. Roslin was the harshest judge, and she made this emo kid cry (who had put skulls on his for the "death of knowledge" ...yeah). Said emo kid got eliminated. Corey Doctorow was happy that I made a slight mini-speech about the internet and things like creative commons. XD
Austin offered to go shopping with me and I was thrilled. Because who wouldn't want to go shopping with that fabulous creature. Elyse won the challenge for elaborate strange food arrangements ("hungry for knowledge" she said, but I figured she was just hungry).
Then there was a whirlwind series of challenges, which I don't rightly remember what they all were, but I remember some clothing remixing and stuff was involved in one, and the guest judges had no rhyme or reason. At some point I called Eddie a hyperactive queen.
Then I was on the chopping block, because some robot thing I was trying to make kind of exploded. Adama was the guest judge and when he wasn't flirting with Roslin he was giving the Adama Does Not Approve look a lot. The "omg someone has to go home" music was playing and Nina was about to say who had gone, but then I woke up.
So yeah! This is my brain. Welcome.
I think I need to eat and work on some homework now.
