I will be very glad when this grant is done and I can get back to the fun stuff. XD So glad Barcon is at the end of the month and breaks up some of this monotony. Yes everybody, research can sometimes be boring. In fact, half the reason I became an engineer was to avoid research and spend my time you know, making stuff.

There's a deity laughing somewhere. Thankfullly this isn't straight hardkore sit in a lab type of research, so I'm ok. Whine, whine more.

So, I'm starting a weekly photography thing with [profile] nebulousity, which will be fun. We pick a theme and go play with our cameras, which is always good! Considering that I'm out of practice as my other camera broke sometime during my sophomore year, and this camera is EVEN FANCIER than that one. Still haven't pulled out my telescopic lens. So expect random pictures appearing, likely most in my DW, because I like that. XD I haven't done this week's assignment yet. I need to get on that.

I've been kind of brained out lately, which makes me sad as there are things I want to write/make/do! Clearly I need a kick in the pants. Part of what I've decided to do is actually get up out of my chair more during the day, as sitting for 10+ hours can't be good for my joints/muscles. So I've set alarms for myself to do that. We'll see how that goes.

And the links, because that's really why we're all reading here:

- Public Domain Music: archive.org with a friendlier interface.
- History of Crayons: a colorful graphic
- You're sleeping too much. Scale it back.
- Disturbing pamphlets from Ladies Home Journal. Love the clothes of that era, but I probably would have stabbed a bitch had I lived in it. Kind of glad my grandparents weren't around to learn I was a lesbian. XD
- Naked Scientists Podcast with my favorite section Naked Astronomy. It's a fun listen and they have British accents!

I'm going to post more pictures sometime before Friday. Let's keep the product theme for at least a week total, if not longer if we want to practice a few more times. I'm going to do something like, three product photography sessions and compare the results from each. s

If only I could quantify brightness/contrast/hue and saturation! XD

Actually..... I technically could make graphs if I imported the images into matlab and did some calculations on the percentage of value and rgb. XDDDDD

Freshman Engineering is full of kids that are about to drop out of it, so I had to do all the programming.

Oh brother, I empathize. Actually, chemistry was the worst for me because you don't just get engineers, you get other lazy, non-engineering students who like to party. I wrote 95% of my group chem lab reports because people COULDN'T WRITE COHERENT SENTENCES.

CS1000 is our class that teaches intro programming, and there was only 1 group assignment, and it was a "program the yahtzee game in C" project. I was partnered up with one of my brilliant international friends, and he eventually did most of the work though because I was so overwhelmed with everything else (I was taking SIX CLASSES and it was the end of the semester -- I had other projects). I was so thankful. I felt guilty, but I wasn't not helping because I was lazy.

Oh man, thanks for that crayon link.

Not only is it really interesting, I have to find interesting visualizations for my Information Visualization class and you just made my job that much easier \o/
