So, it's been a little hectic around here as we're getting the alpha phase of one of our projects ready for in-school testing at the beginning of April (in TEXAS no less). I'm not going along because hello, travel expenses and I'm not high enough on the totem pole, but this is still exciting. Like, you have no idea, I was a SME (subject matter expert) for the grant that funds this project, and designed most of the initial content (which has since changed, for the better, but still). ALPHA PHASE, GUYZ. TESTING ON REAL CHILDRENS.
While I'm having random last minute 'oh my god, what is this does this make sense in science' and 'DO YOU KNOW HOW TO MAKE A FLOW CHART CAUSE THE TEACHER'S GUIDE NEEDS ONE' things happening, I encouraged my interns to come in, despite it being Spring Break for both of them, if they were in town. One showed up today!
See, he left here the last time he pulled a shift (for the interns this is typically like an hour, and both of mine are the unpaid doing for school credit types) kind of frustrated, because the program was not doing what it was supposed to. Now, I'd forgotten how a couple things worked, since it's been a while since I've done heavy C++ coding, but I went and found a forum post somewhere talking about his issue and sent him the link. It didn't outline EVERYTHING, but yeah.
He fixed the problem!
Now, this specific intern, whom I will now always refer to as Bashful, is the shy and nervous type. A real geeky geek. He's 15, so it's a phase he'll likely grow out of. I like it when we can work out things and his confidence goes up (all smiles now!). I tell you what, I don't think my biological clock will kick in now, because as long as I get to work with kids like this? Totally awesome.
Programming Mommy is proud.
I also received an email from the ENE program, about the open house I'm going to at the end of the month, and the agenda looks awesome! Need to remind my boss a tad closer to the date to send an email to the professor he knows there, so that I am kind of pre-introduced. Now hopefully I won't say something stupid and reveal that I am not in fact the wunderkind previously advertised.
Oh, bah, shouldn't think like that. I am however looking forward to when I get my doctorate, because then I'd love to go up to that professor who hated me from undergrad and be all, "I have a doctorate too! WE'RE THE SAME NOW" and see if he turns any colors.
Maybe I'll wait until Sidekick gets his Masters at least. XD
Also, writing has been happening, though in the form of thinly veiled women in engineering meta. >.>
I will be gone starting half day tomorrow for Engineering Bitches Wine Tasting Weekend (aka WineCon) with the three bottles of the good local stuff I procured this weekend. I'll be bringing my camera, so we'll see what shenanigans get documented.
Oh and the nonfandom friending meme is fun. Hi new people!
