crankyoldman: "Hermann, you don't have to salute, man." [Pacific Rim] (rinoa amulet)
I woke up feeling not so well this morning, so getting on the computer and seeing FUN THINGS just about made my life. THANKS PEOPLE I KNOW AND RANDOM OTHER PEOPLE THAT SOMEHOW MANAGED TO BE AWESOME!

- [profile] tijuana_pirate wrote me a story! Granted, it was prompted months ago and just happened to get done around now. SERENDIPITY WHOO.

- BRASKA COSPLAYER.

- The FF Trick or Treat meme has started! And I didn't request any FF7, because I figured others would be more fun. I have to go write Sev some stuff, because she knows where to poke me, because she's EVIL.

- I started writing something last night! Like a story. That Cid/Edea backstory I've been meaning to get for a while. Young!Edea is a wonderfully different perspective. May or may not be influenced by the fact I'm reading The Time Traveler's Wife right now. Or that I'm kind of mushy lately. >.>

- IBUPROFEN IS GOD.

- I've been writing poetry again. I'm rusty.

I mainly just needed something to look at for ten minutes that wasn't related to volume rates. Omg.

Pet Peeve: People that tell me to continue a clearly marked one-shot. If I were going to continue it, I would have marked it as unfinished or said a "part" or something or added a number clearly indicating it was something chaptered. For god's sake, get some reading comprehension. Just because it ends before you want it to doesn't mean it's unfinished.

Some days I wonder how we ever discovered fire or invented the wheel.

P.S. Behold the power of peer pressure.

So, I've realized that I am getting paid to essentially meta all day, lately.

By meta, I mean nitpicky sorts of what is it and how do I sort it kind of OCD stuff. Because I did basically all the research originally, and now there's new research, more people, and I got to spend a good two hours just explaining that I did things in an organized manner. Really. I am so fucking glad I made all those matrices last summer. And kept things as organized as I could. I'm rocking out pretty hardkore now, as I can just cut and paste stuff as people need it. It's somewhat fun explaining my mental process to other people. Oh freshman engineering, the problem solving method and all those points lost on homeworks where I didn't label things correctly really paid off big time.

Of course, this means today is somewhat busy. And my Intern is playing too much WoW at work. I mean, I don't exactly stay on task all the time, but I expect SOME form of promptness for certain things I ask for. I don't ask for it for my health, after all.

Some meme-age, cause it was fun.

Expandalright, so those questions were crazy )

+ And here's the best Project Runway promo recap evar. I love you TLo!

+ I also love hanging in the fun room. And that's only a fraction of the hilarious conversation that was had, involving blades of darkness, Dracula, and doom.

+ AND I FINISHED MY [personal profile] imaginarybeasts STORY!!! It's cute. Zombie robots rawk. Just need someone to look over and check for my spelling/grammar/etc. Hopefully it'll make it in!

My personality type: the dreamy idealist

Not really much to report right now, may have something later I want to discuss. Been reading a shit ton of random things, everything from this set of ghost stories I found, to some things about terraforming to massive amounts of grant report data. It's kind of left my head in a bit of a fog and I have to take periodic breaks because the internet here is still on the fritz. I've figured out that just turning off my network card and turning it back on means it loads faster, but it's still rather annoying. I may need to talk to the IT God and see what the hell is up. Considering all this crazy I may see if I can run and do errands.

Other than that, have a meme. What the hell.

1. Tell me about myself! How would you describe my personality to someone else if you had to?

2. Ask me anything you want to know about me, my life - anything you're curious about.

3. Post this in your own LJ so that I can do the same for you!

You're totally not obligated to post this anywhere, btw.

KILLED my lab practical exam today. I came in about ten minutes late and still left before everyone and had no compile errors and it ran perfectly. YES I PWN YOU VISUAL BASIC. God, it's fun being the annoying kid that something comes naturally to. XD

And I've clearly gotta do more collab writing with [community profile] drakonlily as it's like writing a story that gets done twice as fast. And contains action sequences because I cannot write them for crap. I think we should put "Disclaimer: Cockphobics Wrote This" at the top. I missed AUs. XD For anyone watching, Chapter Four is up

Actually going to try and practice describing movement in Carbon Made as that Dead Fantasy video was ridiculously inspiring.

Also, I was sitting in Dynamics class and remembered how most of Aeronautics sounds like a bunch of dirty jokes if you're half listening. Like Jersey Highwind was on a tirade about rolling balls and weathercocks today. Suffice to say, it was amusing, as I was a little tired and thus more susceptible to things like that. Jersey Highwind never change you're awesome.

Am estactic that my pilot lecture exam got pushed back, as I haven't really studied enough. It's over charts, which are crazy. Anyone who said throttle jockeys are a bunch of dummies (because I've heard that) is an idiot. Makes me wonder why pilot characters in fiction are always assumed to be only common-sense smart. If plane performance charts are common sense, then damns I fail at common sense.

Flux was also good today.

Expandsome memage, as I haven't done any in a while )

P.S. So apparently Firefly is just one big rape fantasy with homoerotic undertones. Mind you, this is probably the most BATSHIT thing I've heard in a while.

P.P.S. But what are your thoughts on yaoi? The mind boggles.

Alright, since I took myself Way Too Seriously as a kid, I didn't actually watch much cartoons, not compared to my peers. I actually watched a ton of MTV or PBS during my prime cartoon targetted years. So. Um. Yeah. But, I did watch some, so here's my favorites in no particular order:

As per request by [profile] tijuana_pirate from that meme thing.

I've got nothing wrong with organized religion, just religious institutions. Of which I believe there is a vast difference. Organization can be simply a handful of people hanging out at each other's houses. An institution in inevitably corruptible and hard to maintain a level of humanism. In fact, institutions are the bodies in any arena which I have the most problems with in areas besides religion. Am I just trying to be cool and anti-establishment? Not really. But the level of personal responsibility is something that oftentimes diminishes in an institution, and especially in the case of religion, I believe that it is a matter of personal responsibility.

You really can't honest believe something if your only incentive to believe is that you've got some authority figure telling you to. They might be able to point you to the path, but it's your job to take it.

Maybe I have too much faith in people but the only religious people I've ever trusted have been the type that make their beliefs their own responsibility. This doesn't exclude wanting to inspire people to their mode of thinking or talking with them, but it does exclude them being wholly responsible for someone else's faith. Which I don't think any human being has the right to do. Institutions discourage autonomy outside of their structure, and I don't know, maybe I'm just hippie enough for that to bother me on a fundamental level. I don't include advisers because for them to truly be labeled as such means they were asked for their expertise. Mentoring and the like should not be a matter of control, and if it is, then it's warped into something else. Nothing gets my goat more than abused authority.

In short: I don't care if you get together in prayer circles and even hand me fliers about my damnation, but the instant people within your group feel the need to govern my life, I have issues. I don't care if you're a prophet, my connection to or disconnection from god is my own. I'll extend the same courtesy.

And while I'm at it, let's have a meme. Gotten from, well, everywhere.

Everyone has things they blog about. Everyone has things they don't blog about. Challenge me out of my comfort zone by telling me something I don't blog about, but you'd like to hear about, and I'll write a post about it. Ask for anything: latest movie watched, last book read, political leanings, thoughts on yaoi, favorite type of underwear, graphic techniques, etc. Repost in your own journal so that we can all learn more about each other.

An Idea

crankyoldman: "Hermann, you don't have to salute, man." [Pacific Rim] (shera)
Real Entry to follow.

Alright, it has occurred to me that I have a lot of writers on my f-list who I've never really read much from. Part of this has to do with The Job, and all the sorts of life rearranging I've been doing, and that couldn't be helped. I attempted to watch some of the fic streams for a while, but let's face it, time is precious, and well, I'm a bit of a canon deviant who gets easily bored with conventional topics.

So, in order to facilitate my understanding of ya'll, think of this as a meme of sorts.

I know we all have stories we'd like people to read. Ones that we spent a lot of time on, and inevitably, no one does, because we either didn't pick the Fandom Sweetheart, or the Pairing Flavor of the Week, or it was Gen or something other Unpopular Thing. So, comment with links to three different stories (keep them to one-shots or chaptered fic under 5 chapters, please), and I promise to read and review at least one of them. Maybe two. Or all of them! Who knows.

And it doesn't matter what fandom. If it's a fandom I don't know, I'll state that in my review and just look at the story itself. Actually, some of the best authors I know can write a fandom I don't know and I'll be able to follow it. If you've got original fiction, even better. Since I dabble in it myself.

So. Here's my three, if anyone was curious:
